Mike Pence booed at Broadway’s Hamilton – cast addresses him from stage

Vice President-Elect Mike Pence decided to take in Broadway’s Hamilton tonight and it’s likely he’ll not soon forget it.

As Pence took his seat inside New York City’s Richard Rodgers Theatre before the show began, he was greeted by a chorus of boos from audience members.

The raw emotion over the US presidential election continued during the performance of the Tony Award-winning musical.

According to reports, Rory O’Malley as King George III sang portions of What Comes Next? directly at Pence.

Then he had to pause because the audience went into a standing ovation after he sang the lyrics, ‘When your people say they hate you.’

At the curtain call, cast member Brandon Victor Dixon (Aaron Burr) called out to Pence from the stage: ‘I see you walking out but I hope you will hear us.

He said to the audience before continuing: ‘There’s nothing to boo here, we’re all sharing a story of love.’

Dixon then said to Pence on behalf of the cast: ‘We welcome you, and we truly thank you for joining us here at Hamilton: An American Musical — we really do. We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir.

‘But we truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values, and work on behalf of all of us.

‘We truly thank you for sharing this show, this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men and women of different colors, creeds and orientations.’
