Meet the new gay character on HBO’s “In Treatment”
When I gabbed with director Paris Barclay just before the Emmys, he was very excited about one of the clients on the HBO series he directs, In Treatment, was a gay teen.
He couldn’t talk about it very much then but assured me that the storyline would be quite powerful.
We will find out beginning this week when In Treatment, which stars Gabriel Byrne as a psychiatrist, has its third season premiere. The half-hour series airs five days a week with each day dedicated to a specific client.
Tuesdays will be the day for Jesse, a gay teen played by actor Dane DeHaan.
Jesse is described as being full of creativity and angst and he is struggling with his identity and his relationship with his adoptive parents. Paul works to instill a sense of belonging and self-worth in Jesse but when Jesse’s birth parents re-introduce themselves into his life, all of Paul’s work is threatened.
DeHaan won the Obie Award for his performance in the off-Broadway play The Aliens. He also starred in the TV movies At Risk and The Front and has done a guest spot on Law & Order: SVU. He appears in the upcoming films Amigo and Jack & Diane.
