Matt Bomer: ‘Get rid of the labels, get rid of the shame, get rid of the stigmas and just be your most authentic self’

While out promoting Magic Mike XXL recently, Matt Bomer was asked a question he clearly did not like.

Is the gay community harder to please than the general population in terms of movies?

‘Why would I ever try to boil down an entire community into a yes or no question?’ Bomer said to interviewer Dulce Osuna of Hola Hollywood. ‘Would you feel comfortable IF I said, “Are women harder or easier to please?”‘

Bomer went on to talk about stereotypes when it comes to gender and sexuality and how it applies to Magic Mike XXL.

‘One of the things, I think, you learn from this movie is that everyone is different,’ he said. ‘It’s all about communication and a dialogue between individuals – get rid of the labels, get rid of the shame, get rid of the stigmas and just be your most authentic self.’

Despite a massive publicity push from its stars Bomer, Channing Tatum, Adam Rodriguez, Donald Glover and Joe Manganiello, Magic Mike XXL has been a box office disappointment compared to the original Magic Mike in 2012.

It has grossed just $58.6 million at the domestic box office since its July 1 release compared to the $114 million grossed by the first film which also starred Matthew McConaughey.

2 Remarks

  1. I think Matt is certainly right. Steriotypes are dangerous. Its too easy to compartmentalize people, to suit others.

Matt, waiting for the Blu-ray or DVD to add to my own library. With you at the helm I would be easy to please. Got all your White Collar episodes except the final after you get kidnapped and The Normal Heart to which I balled and still get teared up as a survivor or those awful years.
