“Master of None” Emmy winner Lena Waithe to “my LGBTQ family, I see each and every one of you”

Aziz Ansari and Lena Waithe won the Emmy for best writing for a comedy series on Sunday night for Master of None.

The writers won for the show episode Thanksgiving and Waithe’s win is historic because she’s the first black woman to ever win in the category. Ansari let her do all the talking.

Waithe began her speech by thanking her mother for inspiring the episode on which her character comes out as a lesbian. Then she said: “My LGBTQ family, I see each and every one of you. The things that make us different — those are our superpowers. Every day when you walk out the door, put on your imaginary cape and go out there and conquer the world because the world would not be as beautiful as it is without us in it.”
