Lunch Break Videos: It’s Carol Channing’s 92nd birthday! Here are some of her classic performances

I took this photo of Carol Channing about three years ago at the West Hollywood Book Fair and wanted to re-post it today on her 92nd birthday.

She is one of the great treasures of theater, movies and television and her publicist, Harlan Boll, is a friend of mine who I know is celebrating with Miss Channing later today in Palm Springs.

She, of course, is best known for her Tony Award winning role of Dolly Levi in Hello Dolly which ran on Broadway forever then was a sensation in several later revivals starring Miss Channing.

But we also loved her in her Oscar-nominated role in Thoroughly Modern Millie and in her many hilarious talk show and sitcom guest appearances.

She is a force of nature and I hope she knows how many people appreciate her for sharing her great talent and energy with us for all these years and for all the work she and the love of her life, Harry Kullijian, have done to keep the arts in schools.

Harry died on the eve of his 92nd birthday in late 2011 but Miss Channing has been determined to carry on with their work.

They were junior high school sweethearts, didn’t see each other for more than 60 years, then reunited and married in 2003. They radiated happiness as you can see in the documentary Carol Channing: Larger Than Life, which you must see if you haven’t already.

Below is a trailer for this fabulous movie as well as Miss Channing performing the wonderful ballad Before the Parade Passes By from her biggest hit show Hello Dolly and a memorable scene from the 1985 TV movie Alice and Wonderland.
