Lunch Break Video: Scenes from 1965 Malibu Beach party w/Paul Newman, Natalie Wood, Jane Fonda & more!
This video was taken by Roddy McDowall at a Malibu beach party in the mid-60s. I’m just fascinated by it. First of all, I’m transfixed by the tight, white shorts Paul Newman is wearing which reiterates that he is the most beautiful man who has ever walked the earth. Then there is a beyond gorgeous Natalie Wood and towards the end, a glimpse of a young and gorgeous Jane Fonda.

In his lifetime Roddy McDowall always took his still and 16mm camera with him everywhere. He knew EVERYBODY!!! He even knew me,a nobody, and always treated me like I was someone special. I would love to find out who he left all that film (well over 3,000 12 minute reels) to and why they have not released any of it. I do know that he published two large coffee table books of still pictures he took of many of the actors and other show business people he knew.
He died way to young.
Since that pool party in the Malibu Colony(looks like late 1960′s), that house has probably been torn down and rebuilt 10 times and is now probably worth over 20 million bucks. I have personally seen someone pay 15 million for a newly rebuilt home there and then tear it down cause he did not like where the kitchen or bathroom was. It is super sad but it does give people constant work…haha. Some workers have spent there whole careers building and rebuilding homes there. There are only some 30 homes in the gated community. Many of the original”beach” homes were build by motion picture set builders as extra work for the movie stars that lived there in the 20′s. Most were not built to last that long and many have just floated away cause they were just build on the sand with no foundation.
If you want to see an interview with Roddy check out an interview he did with Loretta Young when the pope came to LA in the 80′s. It is on YouTube. Her son has released a whole bunch of her private stuff, including young pictures of her daughter with Clark Gable. I think his name is Greg Lewis.

What a fun video! Couldn’t help but thinking of Natalie Wood’s untimely death. The media reported that Wood was deathly afraid of water … you’d never know it, judging by this video. Newman really did look hot in those white trunks, so what else is new?
