Lunch Break Video: On her birthday, revisiting Jennifer Holiday’s classic Tony Awards performance

Hard to believe but Jennifer Holliday, the Tony Award winning star, turns 52 today. She remains in fine voice and looks more beautiful than ever. But we turn the clock back 30 years to when she was starring in Broadway’s Dreamgirls and performed the showstopper And I’m Tellin’ You (I’m Not Going) during that year’s Tony Awards.
It’s a stunner.

    Gaspar Marino says:

One of the greatest moments in the American musical theatre. On the level of an operatic aria. I got chills then and I got chills watching it today. The only performance I ever attended when there was a standing ovation during the performance. Effie White will always be the incompable Jennifer Holliday. Happy Birthday!

  2. For anyone who does not own a copy of the Original Broadway Cast album of “Dreamgirls” stop everything you are doing and either download or purchase it NOW. The entire CD is unforgettable perfection and mesmerizing. I can’t tell you how great it holds up after all these years. As for the movie, I don’t think it is as good but I am due to watch and listen to the film again soon..

Miss Jennifer Holiday is a major talent, her brilliance is extraordinary and she has several highly acclaimed albums that are awesome. Look for them.

Jennifer Hudson better get down on her knees and thank Jennifer Holliday. Damn good thing she thanked her when she won that Oscar!!!
