Liza Minnelli honored at PFLAG’s Straight for Equality Awards Gala in New York City

Love seeing the great Liza Minnelli being feted.
On Saturday night, the three-time Tony winner and Oscar winner for Cabaret was presented with the 2010 Straight for Equality in Entertainment Award for her lifelong role as a Straight Ally of the LGBT community.
The event was hosted by comedienne Caroline Rhea with the live auction hosted by actor and Amazing Race IV winner Reichen Lehmkuhl (pictured with Liza below).
Minnelli surprised the crowd when she stopped in the middle of her acceptance speech to sing a selection from her forthcoming CD Confessions.
Straight for Equality is a project of PFLAG National that was launched in 2007 to invite, educate, and empower straight allies to demonstrate their support for their LGBT friends and family.

She certainly is resembling her Mother more as she gets older and that’s not a bad thing.

What a great gal Liza is! I’m a straight ally/PFLAG member. We really appreciate the way people like Liza speak out and are up front and proud of their participation of this effort. I think she learned well at her Mother’s knee.
