Late Night Video: 20-time nominee Meryl Streep fails Oscar quiz about herself – miserably

If Meryl Streep is nominated for a best actress Oscar this month for The Post, it will be a record 21st nod. I’ve seen the performance as Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham and think she’s top-notch. Here is some Meryl Oscar history literally off the top of my head. Although she’s lost a record 17 times, Meryl is one of three actresses to have at least three Oscars (the others are Ingrid Bergman and four-time winner Katharine Hepburn). Three-time male acting winners are Jack Nicholson and Daniel Day-Lewis. Anyway, Streep was on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight and had 60 seconds to try and name all of her nominations. She failed miserably! For the record, the three wins are for Kramer vs. Kramer, Sophie’s Choice and The Iron Lady. She’s lost as supporting actress for The Deer Hunter, Adaptation and Into the Woods. Her 14 best actress losses were for The French Lieutenant’s Woman, Out of Africa, Silkwood, A Cry in the Dark, Ironweed, Postcards From the Edge, One True Thing, Music of the Heart, The Bridges of Madison County, The Devil Wears Prada, Julie & Julia, Doubt, August: Osage County, and Florence Foster Jenkins.

2 Remarks

  1. Jimmy was wrong, she was nominated for A Cry In The Dark. It’s sometimes referred to by the Australian title Evil Angels but imdb lists both names so his staff flubbed that one.

  2. Don’t forget Walter Brennan- he won three Oscars for Best Supporting Actor!
