Kirk Cameron too busy to meet w/bullied teens

Kirk Cameron has declined to meet with a group of LGBT youth in New Jersey this weekend.

As you may recall, Cameron said on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight in March that he believes homosexuality is ‘unnatural, ‘detrimental,’ and ‘ultimately destructive.’

When Garden State Equality’s Youth Caucus member Corey Bernstein learned that Cameron would be attending the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association in the area, he issued the invite.

‘In a kind, respectful and constructive way, we’d like to talk to you about the pain your words about being LGBT have personally caused me and other LGBT youth,’ Bernstein wrote to Cameron.

‘Some of your public comments about being LGBT have devastated us LGBT youth,’ Bernstein added. ‘We yearn to grow up in a world that provides us dignity and safety. That is our simple, most heartfelt dream.’

Cameron’s manager, Mark Craig, explained in a letter to Bernstein that the one-time Growing Pain star’s schedule is ‘quite hectic’ as he promotes his film, Monumental, and works on a new movie.

‘He usually flies in the day of the event and after the event is actually traveling to the next one,’ Craig wrote. ‘Because of this intense schedule, there is not time to set up extra meetings like you are suggesting.’

Craig said Cameron asked him to personally reply to the invite with a personal message because Bernstein took the time to share his personal feelings.

‘I want to share this thought with you, from someone who sees and works with Kirk almost everyday of the year – I promise you his goal is not one of trying to hurt people in any way, in fact it is just the opposite,’ Craig wrote. ‘He has a concern for their well being – not only now, but eternally.’

I guess that supposed talk Alan Thicke had with Cameron didn’t quite take eh?

I say to Corey Bernstein and other LGBT youth; just believe in yourself. Life is full of Kirk Camerons. They aren’t worth your time or thought. There are plenty of us who do believe in you.

  3. Dear,Dear,Greg.I have to be honest to say that I was very disappointed to see an ad for the repel of Roe vs Wade on your site.Tho it was on the same pg as the article about that worm cameron was fitting, it was still disconcerting.Considering all that you do to promote equality especially for gay rights,I don’t believe you would promote the war on women agenda of the far right no more than you would promote the agenda of cameron.Creatures like cameron and the far right hateful bigots would be behind overturning Roe vs Wade and hateful speech about controlling women, so why give them a platform on your site to help condone it? I ask this with all due respect because this type of hate speech does not seem to be on par for your site.

  4. Greg, is it true you posted an ad to repel Roe vs Wade? Or,did Google just slip it in without you knowing? I gotta say I am very disappointed if you did and need to really rethink my subscription to your site. You of all people…this is very very upsetting. In my book it makes you no better then this cameron ass or rush lumbaugh or hannity and I do not want to be associated or have anything to do with any of them.

  5. Not this prikk again!

  6. It slipped through via Google ads. It’s rare something like that happens but, of course, I did not endorse that ad. Have faith!
