Now Kirk Cameron is blaming the ‘liberal press’ for backlash on anti-gay comments

Kirk Cameron, best known for the 80s sitcom Growing Pains, suffered widespread backlash when he told CNN’s Piers Morgan that homosexuality is ‘detrimental,’ ‘unnatural’ and ‘ultimately destructive to so many foundations of civilization.’
Now he’s blaming Morgan and the ‘liberal press’ for the controversy.
‘If Piers Morgan were truly concerned about the homosexual community, concerned with people being hurt, he could have eliminated that section, like he did many other parts of our conversation,’ Cameron says in an interview with Naples News.
Cameron, a high-profile conservative Christian, was slammed by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and other groups as well as some of his former Growing Pains co-stars for his anti-gay remarks.
But he has never apologized for them.
‘I’m OK with the way things worked out,’ he says. ‘That’s not to say there’s not a better way of saying something. I think Todd Akin would agree with that.’
Akin is the Missouri Republican Senate nominee who stated that women who are victims of what he called “legitimate rape” rarely get pregnant.
Morgan has not responded to Cameron’s claim about sections of their interview being ‘eliminated.’

FAEN says:
Kirk Cameron-ever the victim, ever the martyr.
Mike says:
Could someone please direct me to the ‘liberal press?’ If he were a real man or even stood behind his vile comments, he would not be coming off as a wuss who can’t get a real job in Hollywood.
Ron says:
Why do people always blame the so-called “Liberal Media” when they say something & people react?? I don’t get it.
This is not the first time Kirk has said something like this. It is what he believes, so own it!
I’m so tired of The Extreme Right getting upset and blaming others when they say something that others disagree with.
If you appear for an interview, the interviewer has a right to edit the segment if it runs over. Of course they are going to show what gets the most attention. If you are concerned that people won’t like what you say, don’t say it. Keep the hate speech to yourself! Or go on Fox News.
Joe says:
Why should Piers Morgan have alleviated the question from the interview? Cameron’s response didn’t hurt anyone….just opened up the eyes of people so they could see the truth behind Cameron. If you said it, don’t blame someone else….or even a great sweeping number of people labeled “the liberal media.” Give me a break!
2201 East says:
Agree with Joe. If he doesn’t want people to report on it—don’t say it. Interesting that the press is “liberal” only if it isn’t interpreted “correctly”?!?

I think this is one of the time that Mr. Cameron should have just stayed quiet and not said anything. I’m pretty sure he is regretting saying what he said but instead of point the blame, just come out and own up to what he said, then apologize to those whom he offended and wait for things to simmer down. By doing so, he would make so much out of his career that wasn’t too bad before his comments. Cute Kirk had some Christian and family-oriented films that didn’t seem too bad . Yes, I called him “Cute Kirk” because he still looks like Mike S. and he is a man of certain age. Even though he feels that homosexuality is ‘destructive’, my gay butt still thinks that he is talented and extremely attractive. Is boyfriend a Mormon because I know him and his wife have a slew of kids and I don’t think they are stopping any time soon. They are going to pro-create for all the gays and lesbians that can’t. Good Luck! Kirk has to just remember that while he was big on TV and doing some movies, that there might have been someone behind-the-scenes or on the set that were actually gay or lesbian. Honey, Hollywood is one place on Earth that gay people can and should be gay without too judgment. Most gay people are flaunting their lifestyle, they are just being themselves. With that said, I’m not saying that everyone is going to agree with it (like Kirk) but you have to respect the people that are working side-by-side with you or for you. If you have some opinion that isn’t favorable of your co-workers, it’s best to keep it to yourself, especially in the age of facebook, tweeting and all that jazz. Before you can blink an eye, everyone knows your a bigot and your career is ruined. Kirk, you got a chance to redeem yourself but you have to now put the work in. I don’t think the gay community is going to hold a grudge against you for too long, your too damn cute. However, if you act like it doesn’t bother you and your content how everything went down, then I guess it’s ok. Just remember that you might have lost a great deal of your fan base because of your beliefs and having convictions is always a good thing, however you made a career out of make believe.
Remember even people that aren’t gay and don’t agree with the lifestyle, they have family and friends that are gay and lesbians and have a mutual understanding. The people that go out of their way to make outlandish comments, normally have something to hide. At least that is what I found out in my travels, big ole’ closet-cases. Kirk Cameron, let me find out, you have been hanging out in head shops or trolling on Craigslist. The beautiful ex-Rev. Ted Haggard (Yeah, I think he is cute…..my taste is odd at times) would make it a point to put homosexuality on blast during all his mega-church services that were broadcast to the world.
What I have heard is that you don’t have to be gay to have gay sex and this Man of God wasn’t just having all kind of gay sex but he was indulging in drug use. It’s not a crazy world because it’s perfect but we are some crazy folks at times, including you Kirk, so please get it together.
