Kathy Griffin protective of Anderson Cooper
The one time I had a one-on-one interview with Kathy Griffin was about five years ago.
We sat on a piano bench at the Chateau Marmont and gabbed and I loved every minute of it.
I remember asking her about Anderson Cooper who she had just begun hosting New Year’s Eve festivities with on CNN.
Since she was dishy about Clay Aiken, I thought maybe she would dish a little bit about Anderson who I had known for years was gay.
But Kathy deflected the question and I sensed a real protectiveness about Anderson.
That’s why I’m not surprised by some of the comments she made today in a column for The Daily Beast about Anderson’s coming out letter this week.
‘Quite frankly, he never gave me permission to speak about something that represented the one part of his life he was not comfortable having confirmed in the media,’ she writes. ‘While I’ve tried to protect my friend and represent him the way he would most prefer, I was never exactly clear on just how to do it, how to say it.’
