Jonathan Bennett and Robert Buckley to play brothers in first queer-centric Hallmark Christmas movie

Mean Girls actor Jonathan Bennett will star in Hallmark’s first LGBTQ-themed holiday movie, The Christmas House, the network announced Wednesday.

The Christmas House features a storyline about a gay couple looking to adopt their first child. Bennett’s husband will be played by cutie pie Brad Harder (pictured below).

Bennett’s brother will be played by Robert Buckley of One Tree Hill and Lipstick Jungle fame. He’s a longtime crush and I thought you all would enjoy a shirtless pic of Mr. Buckley.

Hallmark has had a woeful record when it comes to diversity and LGBT inclusion so this is a nice start.

Rival network Lifetime announced last week that real-life married actors Ben Lewis and Blake Lee had been tapped to star in The Christmas Setup, its first-ever romantic holiday movie featuring a same-sex couple lead.

One Remark

  1. I have to disagree with you on Hallmark’s “woeful record.” If anything, Hallmark has a much better record of inclusion than mainstream Hollywood. Hallmark has repeatedly cast openly gay actors as the heterosexual romantic leads in their movies. How often do regular Hollywood novies do that? I understand you are referring to characters and stories and that could use some improvement, of course. But, the reason there are so many actors in the closet in 2020 is because once they come out, the opportunity to play straight characters evaporates. Billy Eichner confirmed that. Who knows? Maybe Hallmark will lead the way to better castin opportunities for LGBTQ actors.
