Johnny Weir: “Every Little Boy Should Be So Lucky As To Turn Into Me”

http://silverjacket.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/johnny_weir.jpgOlympic skater Johnny Weir may not want to talk about whether or not he is gay but he makes no effort to try and butch it up for anyone.

And that just makes some people crazy apparently.

Two French-language broadcasters in Quebec, Claude Mailhot and Alain Goldberg, made homophobic remarks about the stylish and flamboyant Weir with one saying he hurts figure skating’s image and another saying Weir should be made to take a gender test.

The Quebec Gay and Lesbian Council formally filed a complaint Monday with a Canadian broadcast monitoring council, demanding a public apology from French-language broadcaster RDS. The two broadcasters later offered an on-air apology for their comments.

Johnny, clearly far more mature than the French dudes, handled it so beautifully in an interview he did last night with Dorothy Hamill for Access Hollywood.

“Every little boy should be so lucky as to turn into me,” he said calmly. “And that’s all I have to say about that.”

Well said!

Australia’s Channel Nine has also reportedly received complaints from viewers after two of its hosts joked about the masculinity of Weir and other male skaters.

Could everyone please GROW UP?

2 Remarks

  1. He’s an accomplished athlete. It would be amusing if those who have negative things to say about him were made to join Weir in his workout for even one day. Besides looking like fools as they fell on their rear ends, whether they could even finish is more than debatable. It would be funnier the next day or so to listen to the moans and groans of these “manly” men. A manly man is confident enough of himself he wouldn’t have to make such comments!

  2. I agree with East’s comment! Johnny is amazing and is an inspiration to young skaters everywhere! I love Johnny’s confident self identity and he is a pleasure to watch in large part because of it!
