John Travolta finally comments on the Idina Menzel Oscar flub heard around the world

Have just watched this again and started laughing about it all over again. I mean, how?

Anyway, John Travolta has finally spoken out about his legendary mangling of Idina Menzel’s name on Oscar night. For some reason, her name came out of his mouth as “Adele Dazeem.”

Of course he can’t explain it – how could you?

“I’ve been beating myself up all day,” Travolta said in the statement.

He used a clever reference to the song Menzel sang when urging the world to please move on.

“Then I thought … what would Idina Menzel say, She’d say, Let it go, let it go!” Travolta also said. “Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy ‘Frozen’ took home two Oscars Sunday night!”

Idina is most likely thanking Travolta – this is the most the wickedly talented Tony Award winning star of Wicked has been talked about – ever.

  1. So THAT’S why I had such a hard time finding Idina Menzel online after being mightily impressed by her song! I’d much rather hail her magnificent soul performance than kvetch about Travolta’s mangling her name in his intro. Along with Darlene Love’s a cappella version of “His Eye Is On the Sparrow” as one of the accepters of the award for “20 Feet from Stardom” as best feature documentary, Menzel’s intense, vivid, soulful singing of “Let It Go” was the high point of the Oscarcast. I can readily imagine her starring in a biopic of Janis Joplin — she’s that good.

  2. I’m surprised Travolta is getting so much grief over mispronouncing Idina’s name. Its quite a mouthful, and I didn’t have a clue how to say it until I had heard it said. I think people just look for things to make fun of.
