Jason Collins is supportive of Michael Sam competing on new season of “Dancing With the Stars”

TMZ caught up with retired NBA player Jason Collins at the airport and, of course, asked him about Michael Sam competing on Dancing With the Stars.

We already know that critics won’t cut Michael a break no matter what because he’s gay. No matter what anybody says, this is clearly why he has not even been given a chance to play a regular season NFL game.

But Jason, the first openly gay player in NBA history, supports Michael being on the show: ‘I think other NFL players have done it … I know Michael still wants to play in the NFL so since other players have done it, why not him?’

He thinks Sam might have a bit of an edge on the dance floor: ‘Athletes definitely should know how to move their body and should be strong for the partner lifting and all that fun stuff.

‘I look forward to seeing him out on the dance floor and I hope he doesn’t drop his partner,’ he jokes. ‘I wish him the best of luck.’

One Remark

  1. What pisses me off greatly is hearing so many in the GLBT community criticize Michael. Just the other day I was listening to a show on OutQ and the host continuously slammed him. Even if Michael doesn’t get to play in the NFL, and it would be a tragedy if he didn’t, he has broken barriers for other. We should be applauding and supporting him not tearing him down.
