Jane Lynch to be honored at L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Gala; Matthew Morrison to present and Lily Tomlin to host! great is this fellow Gleeks?

It’s just been announced that Emmy winner Jane Lynch (Best in Show, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) and Broadway veteran Matthew Morrison (Footloose, Hairspray) and living legend Lily Tomlin (Damages, Nine to Five) will headline the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s 39th Anniversary Gala & Auction on Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel.

This is always a terrific event but this line-up is sure to make this year’s edition an amazing night., winner of the Emmy last month for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series, will receive the Center’s highest individual honor. She has worked to support the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and the Center, where she serves on the board of directors.

She helped make the Center’s “An Evening with Women: Celebrating Art, Music & Equality” a huge success when she hosted the event in 2008 and the following year when she took the stage alongside her co-stars from The L Word. She’s also a proud veteran of the Center’s largest fundraising event, having pedaled from San Francisco to Los Angeles in the California AIDS Ride (now known as AIDS/LifeCycle).

Lynch’s Glee co-star Morrison will present her with the Center’s Rand Schrader Distinguished Achievement Award.

“One thing I’ve learned during my time working with the Center is that this organization—aside from helping homeless youth, saving the lives of people with HIV and all that community service stuff—really knows how to throw a party,” jokes Lynch, who married Dr. Lara Embry in Massachusetts earlier this year. “And the Anniversary Gala is no exception—I’ve been to many of them! Being honored at the gala is very flattering because the Center is such an important organization to me and this event in particular is such an important fundraiser for the Center’s amazing services. Just by being a part of it, you know you’re helping to make a difference for the LGBT community.” Jane Lynch and Matthew Morrison. Not bad, right?  Well add to that the legendary Lily Tomlin – Emmy, Tony and Grammy winner and as smart and funny as ever – and you have a line-up that will be one for the ages.

“Lily is a living legend as well as a longtime supporter of the Center,” says Eric M. Shore, who serves as the event co-chair alongside fellow board member Tim Hanlon. “What could make a dynamic event like the gala more perfect than to have her star power and quick quips on stage?”

The creator of such memorable characters as telephone operator Ernestine and child philosopher Edith Ann, Tomlin (along with her partner) is the namesake of the Center’s Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts program.

In April, Tomlin joined drag star Coco Peru on stage at the Center’s Renberg Theatre to reflect on her career and her inspiration for the many characters she has created. Conversations with Coco raised $25,000 for Center services. [See my recap of that evening HERE].

No stranger to the gala, Tomlin starred in the show at the 20th anniversary gala. At the 2002 gala, she was honored with the Center’s Rand Schrader Distinguished Achievement Award.

The gala is an occasion to recognize both individuals and organizations making a difference in the fight for LGBT equality.

This year, the Center will honor Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. with its Corporate Vision Award, which recognizes companies that show extraordinary commitment to LGBT equality. Harrah’s has endorsed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would prohibit job discrimination based on sexual orientation, and received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2010 Corporate Equality Index. The company is also a generous supporter of LGBT organizations.

Gala raffle tickets are also available; only 250 of the $250 raffle tickets are sold, and the winner receives a seven-day, two-city trip to France, including luxurious accommodations and business-class airfare, courtesy of Four Seasons Resort and American Airlines!
