Jake Silbermann talks about the end of the Noah-Luke-Reid storyline on “As the World Turns”

As you well know, I’m firmly for Luke and Reid on As the World Turns over Luke and Noah. (I refuse to use the nicknames!)
But, as the show heads into its final four weeks, I can really appreciate the Luke and Noah relationship and how the the two have grown up together and finally, grown apart.
Actors Van Hansis (Luke) and Jake Silbermann (Noah) have a terrific chemistry and connection that has helped us survive some of the ludicrous plot twists and kissing droughts.
Michael Fairman has posted a wonderful interview with Jake and it is interesting to hear his thoughts on the relationship which has seen Luke move on to a relationship with Dr. Reid Oliver (Eric Sheffer Stevens).
On the way the storyline has been wrapping up with Noah heading to LA and Luke choosing to remain in Oakdale with Reid: “I was told I would be filming up till the very end of the show, which I was. It was just very spread out, but I don’t take it personally. I guess I was a little surprised in the way they chose to tell the story. But I understand where they were going with it. It was kind of interesting for me too, because I thought, “Hmm… I wonder how they are going to end this?” I didn’t know. My real concern has always been that I hope at the end of the story that the fans are happy. I have said this in other interviews… that is my one concern. I know there is no way to make everyone happy, especially at this point, because a lot of fans want Luke and Reid to be together. But, I have also been thrilled to take part in this storyline.”
“In the end Noah did grow up a bit, and in that way it was kind of a real story, not some over romanticized depiction of a first love,” he added. “These guys did have their moments, and sadly, sometimes people who grow close do move away from each other. Ultimately, I am happy if the fans are happy.”

On Van Hansis: “First, it’s great to be able to work with somebody that you are really good friends with. So on that level, being on set and to spend that time together, is great. Van is a great guy. He is so professional to work with. We would want to do the work and tell the story. I felt there was that mutual respect for each other, and the crew, and the producers, that showed we were ready to dive in and make changes, as we needed to do on the fly. It’s something that can be jarring, but I felt like we could rely on each other.”

His favorite Noah storyline: “His first storyline definitely, when he came out. He only got to come out once. And even then, it was a struggle for him. … There are so many people out there who that story related to. Noah was trying to deny that part of himself and eventually, not wanting to fight it anymore, and not willing to deny who they are. I think that can be such a scary and terrifying thing. I know there are people out there who go through a difficult time, and when they decide to come out, it may not be a supported action from those people around them who are supposed to love them, no matter what.”
On the end of ATWT: “I was not there the final day. There was a wrap party that was fun. It made me sad that we didn’t have more parties before that! I was like, “Wow! This is a really great group of people. We should have done this more!” I am sure there were some tears shed, and it’s a different situation for everyone. For some people, that is the end of not a career, but of a specific time in it. Some people have been with ATWT for such a long time. What an amazing experience for them, to have taken these characters through so much. I feel like I have done quite a bit in three years, and there have been moments where Noah has been heavy in story, but for the most part over that time, certainly not as many episodes as the show veterans. Just a thought of what I went through in that amount of time I was there…. I can’t begin to imagine the experiences and the days they put in. Some of these guys have probably forgotten more episodes than I was in. It was a wonderful ride, and a very amazing experience.”

Jake is definitely sexy and brought a relatable, stable role that introduced America’s first daytime gay super couple. Without Jake’s reinforcing masculinity, the gay couple idea would’ve fizzled. He strategically accomplished credibility with his bro, laidback understated qualities. Definitely complimented Luke’s more emotional impulsive gay role. He made it cool for middle American soap watchers to be lead gently into a gay storyline. Jake deserves credit for making the first gay supercouple last 3 years. It takes 2 to tango. If writers were more bold in developing his character, there would be no need for Reid before a cancellation. Jake is hot! Hope his assets are better utilized in a more serious, mysterious, dark but sexy vampire or cop/detective series.
