“IF/THEN” starring Idina Menzel has opened at Pantages Theatre – Greg In Hollywood highly recommends!
It’s been a busy week and I’m just now catching up on writing about some of the terrific theater experiences I had in recent days.
On Wednesday night, I took a friend of mine to opening night of IF/THEN at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater and was so excited to see the great Idina Menzel perform live for the first time ever. It seems I was the only gay in town who missed her at Hollywood Bowl over the summer.
We had terrific seats – so good in fact that there were only two seats between me and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti!
I knew this show was good and had earned Menzel a Tony Award nomination but I did not know the score or even the story so it made for such a fresh and wonderful experience.
Joining Menzel are the other stars of the original Broadway production: Tony Award winner LaChanze, Anthony Rapp and James Snyder.
This contemporary musical follows two distinct storylines in the life of Elizabeth (Menzel), a city planner who moves back to New York to restart her life. Her life splits into two parallel paths and the musical follows both stories simultaneously.
The show is on a four-week engagement at Pantages as part of its national tour. It runs through January 3. (Tickets can be ordered HERE).
To give you a taste of what you have in store, here is Menzel performing Always Starting Over during last year’s Tony Awards telecast.
She really is that good!
