“I Love Lucy” Friday: Feeling neglected by their husbands, Lucy and Ethel go to charm school

This episode is a riot thanks to the appearance of Lovey Howell herself, Natalie Schafer. She plays the head of a charm school where Lucy and Ethel go to glam up.

As she assesses the ladies looks, she says of Lucy’s complexion: “Here we strive for a natural look and that powder gives you a very weird, unnatural look.”

Lucy replies: “I’m not wearing powder.”

Then she tries to teach the girls how to walk: “One glides. Let the hips carry the body. Hips go first, and the body follows aaaafta.”
