How Andy Cohen was traumatized by Eddie Murphy

I’m just beginning to read Andy Cohen new book, Most Talkative.

I was just stunned by a chapter in the book that relives his experience as a closeted high school student who went to an Eddie Murphy concert in the 80s and had to suffer through anti-gay material that his straight friends found hilarious.

I ran out of the arena and into the bathroom where I spent most of the concert in a stall, rocking back and forth wishing and praying that I could somehow unzip my skin and throw it away,’ he writes. ‘I wanted to walk out of that bathroom a completely different person and yet I knew I couldn’t.’

Read more about this traumatic incident detailed in my story posted at Gay Star News.

  1. Well, eddie murphy is kind of a dick!! I would have walked out of the bathroom……given EVERYBODY the finger and left.

  2. …”I ran out of the arena and into the bathroom where I spent most of the concert in a stall, rocking back and forth”… I guess this is when a young, angry Andy, hashed out his plan to get back at those evil straights by contributing to the dumbing-down of America by creating an entire network of reality-trash TV! The End… hehehe

  3. Powerful words…I can actually picture him as a kid doing that. Unfortunately, I guess we all had similar experiences. Andy is smart, polite, tactful, and cute. I’m sure his Eddie Murphy experience helped mold him into the great package he is.

I was reading his book while waiting in line to meet him in Bethesda, MD. I have to continue reading to find out more details but Andy is such a handsome and sweet guy. (sigh)
