Highlights from Kennedy Center Honors telecast: Obama sheds tear to Aretha, Cicely Tyson sings along
I tell you, last night’s telecast of the Kennedy Center Honors was just heaven.
There were many highlights but the two biggest were the musical performances paying tribute to Cicely Tyson and Carole King.
King just about jumped out of her seat she was so overwhelmed by Aretha Franklin’s performance of King’s composition (You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman with her big fur coat and piano playing.
Earlier, King’s great longtime friend and collaborator James Taylor performed Up On The Roof while sitting on a roof.
Then there was the magnificent tribute to Miss Tyson whose utter joy and tears was for all to see when CeCe Winans and Terrence Blanchard performed Blessed Assurance. I cried as I watched this 91-year-old acting legend twice leap to her feet during the performance and sing along.
