Herndon Graddick resigns as GLAAD president

I did find it odd that Herndon Graddick did not do the big speech at the GLAAD Media Awards in LA last month but Wilson Cruz did such a wonderful job at it I didn’t give it much more thought.

I should have.

It’s just been announced that Graddick has resigned as president of GLAAD after just over a year on the job.

The reasons are vague at this point.

    Rick S in PS says:

The Boards of Directors who lead many gay organizations are to blame for the hiring of Graddick and others like Geoff Kors who took a vacation in the middle of the gay marriage fight and allowed the Mormons to define who we aren’t. Of course now because of Kors’ debacle in his failure to lead the campaign, the future of California gay marriage is in the hands of the Courts. The Boards always hire smooth-talking weasels who step on everyone and will do anything to get ahead and move on up the power ladder. And they are beholden to the Board members. This is the problem with many major gay non-profits in the Palm Springs area as well. What these Boards need to do (what they will never do) is hire someone passionate to the organization and the cause, because gay organizations need to achieve and function above and beyond our straight counterparts. Just wait — Graddick will turn up elsewhere soon just as Kors did. Failure means nothing to these bozos — they just cast the blame elsewhere. Pitiful!

    Hank Scott says:

GLAAD’s problem is that it’s totally irrelevant. The so-called main stream media and the film industry — GLAAD’s focus — are very gay friendly. Where homophobia is rampant is in sports, schools and on the web. GLAAD would do the LGBT community a huge favor by shutting down rather than diverting donations from my worthy organizations.
