Harvey Milk was murdered 39 years ago today

Uncle Harvey took those bullets 39 years ago today, for us all. He prophetically knew that this ultimate sacrifice and his message of visibility would one day lead LGBT people everywhere to live authentic lives – openly & proud! Remember Harvey MILK today!

4 Remarks

  1. KEEP IN MIND: Lets not forget Mayor Moscone was also killed. Where as George spent most of his adult life as a dedicated politician and activist. He was elected 2 years before Harvey, and was gay friendly from the get-go of his administration. He truly gave the rights movement-movement! Please remember this when you honor Harvey.

  2. @Jerry-Well said!

  3. I’ve learned that I can choose to be myself and love me due to Harvey Milk, around this time I chose to come out.

  4. @Jerry Pritikin, you’re absolutely right. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and remember Mayor Moscone being very instrumental in the gay movement as well as appointing many women, gays, lesbians and minorities in positions that previous mayors never did.

I also remember the day that both Mayor Moscone and Harvey Milk were shot and killed and remember what I was doing at that moment in time. I also remember the sadness that followed including the funerals and the Moscone children and Castro events. It was all very sad.

I was 18 years old at the time of their deaths and came out two years earlier at age 16 so was already part of the gay community when it happened. I very much remember Mayor George Moscone as well as Harvey Milk on this day. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
