Happy Birthday to Tim Gunn!

Tim Gunn, the longtime mentor on Project Runway and one of the hosts of ABC’s The Revolution, turns 59 today.

I have a lot of respect for how increasingly candid Tim and gotten in recent years about his personal life.

Earlier this year, Tim made a startling admission during his second week on The Revolution that he has not had sex in 29 years.

He had his heart broken by a guy at a time when the AIDS epidemic was just beginning to surface.

I’m a perfectly happy fulfilled individual and I have feelings,’ he said. ‘It’s not as though I’m some barren forest.’ [read more HERE]

Tim also scored major points with me and a lot of others last year when he bravely opened up about his suicide attempt as a teenager in a video for Dan Savage’s It Gets Better Project.

He said in the video aimed at LGBT teens:

“As a 17-year-old youth who was in quite a bit of despair, I attempted to kill myself and I’m very happy today that that attempt was unsuccessful but at the time it’s all that I could contemplate. … I woke up the morning after taking over a hundred pills and I was in a whole other level of despair. I thought, ‘I shouldn’t be here. This isn’t what was meant to be.’ I frankly just wanted to start life all over again.”

“I understand the desperation, I understand the despair, and I understand how isolated you feel.”
