Happy birthday to the great Betty Buckley!

Wishing a very happy birthday to Betty Buckley who is, quite simply, a national treasure.

The Tony winner is recovering from horse riding accident that resulted in five broken vertebrae in May. But she still made it to California for her Eight is Enough co-star Dick Van Patten’s memorial service last week and is set to star in the Hamptons’ first production of Grey Gardens: The Musical as Big Edie.

Miss Buckley is a musical theater legend and no one sings quite like she does.

She is such a wonderful performer who as a kid I knew as Abby on Eight is Enough. Then one night in 1984 that I will never forget, I saw her sing Memory from Cats and Over You from Tender Mercies on The Tonight Show and she became my goddess forever.

    I mostly remember Betty Buckley as the P.E. teacher from the awesome 1976 Stephen King movie “Carrie”.
