Happy Birthday to our great ally Cyndi Lauper!
The LGBT community could not have a better friend than the great Cyndi Lauper.
She speaks her mind and from her heart and her and she makes a difference with her Give a Damn campaign, her True Colors tours and True Colors Fund. She is fighting for marriage equality in New York and everywhere and speaking up for homeless LGBT youth.
Honestly, I get a little choked up just writing about her because I appreciate her efforts so much.
I saw up-close how deeply Cyndi cares when I spoke with her in April at the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center’s Evening With Women event and asked her to comment on Donald Trump’s anti-gay marriage remarks during his widely-publicized flirtation with running for president. She had appeared on his Celebrity Apprentice show last season to raise money for True Colors Fund.
“We make strides and then they take it away,” she said sadly. ”I went on Trump, he embraced me and my charity and then he turned around and nullified everything. It broke me heart. I couldn’t believe it. It hurt my feelings so much.”
Hopefully we can celebrate Cyndi’s birthday this week with marriage becoming legal in her state of New York!
