Happy Birthday to Leslie Jordan!

This tiny man with massive talent turns 54 years old today.

I’ve seen Leslie Jordan many times at various events and it’s always fun to talk to him. But my favorite chat happened when we ran into each other while waiting in line at the post office on Beverly with notorious long lines. We had time for a good gab. For some reason, I decided to tell Leslie that the funniest scene in the series finale of Will & Grace (he had a recurring role as the nemesis of Megan Mullally’s during the show’s run) was when the diminutive actor’s character literally was got caught in a gust of win that blew out a high-rise window to his death.
“You are the second person to tell me that this morning!” Leslie said that day.

Then he shared this fun anecdote: for the classic scene, he was lifted off of the ground and into the air by a device that did it with such ferocity that it literally lifted him right out of his shoes. His only regret is that a shot of his abandoned shoes, left on the floor, did not make the final cut.

I think that woulda been a hoot!

In 2006, Leslie won an Emmy for his hilarious portrayal of Beverley Leslie – the filthy rich, bitchy and once comically closeted character graced 12 episodes of the series.

Leslie has kept busy with writing (My Trip Down the Pink Carpet), a one-man show and the Logo series Sordid Lives which may or may not return for a second season. Creator Del Shores went public recently with claims that neither he or the cast had received any of the residual money owed them

At least Lives made it to air. Leslie also had a wonderful role in 12 Miles of Bad Road, the brilliant satirical series from Harry Thomason and Linda Bloodworth Thomason canceled by HBO before it even aired its first episode! A dozen episodes of the show were produced starring Lily Tomlin as a wealthy Dallas matriarch of a large dysfunctional family and Mary Kay Place and Leslie as Tomlin’s eccentric sister and cousin.

I sincerely hope someday soon this wonderful gem sees the light of day on DVD or online. It should be seen!

Whatever happens with Sordid Lives or 12 Miles, Leslie is keeping busy most recently co-starring with Cybill Shepherd on a comedy pilot for Lifetime.
