Happy Birthday to Johnny Weir!
At last month’s LA Pride Parade in West Hollywood, I was so impressed with how Johnny Weir handled the occasion. He was clearly so very glad to be there and said to the press before the parade: “I’m here representing my community and so many beautiful people that I’m proud of.”
The Olympic skater has long had a large fan base but he’s been even more appealing since coming out publicly earlier this year.
So I hope he’s having a wonderful birthday today – he turns 27 – that is filled with a lot of love and fun.
When we spoke at last year’s GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles, Johnny credited his parents for his hard work ethic and his free spirit: “They never told me not to do something or to do it this way, they always pushed my brother and I to do everything the way we thought was right. When you don’t have the constant badgering from family and friends, then you tend to grow and be unique and strong in who you are.”
