Happy Birthday to Andy Roddick!

Greg In Hollywood fave Andy Roddick turns 27 years old today!

The 2003 US Open champion is America’s top-ranked player and has a damned good chance of adding a second title to his resume. The Open begins tomorrow and Andy is seeded fifth. He made it to the Wmbledon final last month playing some of the best tennis of his career but lost a heartbreaker to Roger Federer.

This is his time. is an essay Andy wrote about this year’s US Open:

NEW YORK — It’s that special time of year again when New York becomes the focal point of tennis and my life becomes a whirlwind of activity.

Don’t think that I’m complaining, though. As always, the next two weeks are going to be exhilarating as the U.S. Open takes over the Big Apple.

There is nothing quite like New York at any time, but there is a buzz about the place when the Open is on and this year is no different.

For me, the thrill started several days before the tournament. I got to check out the new Yankee Stadium, which was awesome, and I made an appearance on Letterman. Doing stuff like that is part of what the Open is about, and it is why this is such a special and unique event.

I have worked hard this year and my results have been solid but I am not satisfied yet. Over the weekend I will start to dial things down a little bit and focus on the final Grand Slam of the year.

Winning this event in 2003 was the greatest moment of my career and it is something I will never forget. I would love to get back to the final again and play for the title.

All of the top men’s players are in great form and it is shaping to be an awesome tournament. Roger Federer and Andy Murray are playing great, Rafael Nadal is back from injury and there is a group of players including myself who want to give ourselves a chance to lift the trophy.

I will tune back in during the tournament. For now I’m just getting myself pumped up for the challenge of what lies ahead. Enjoy the ride.
