Happy Birthday to “EastSiders” star Van Hansis!
EastSiders star Van Hansis turns 36 today and I want to wish a very happy birthday to him!
The third season of this terrific series, which earned Van an Emmy nomination last year and was nominated for best web series, will premiere in November.
Van, of course, was previously best known for his run as Luke Snyder on the CBS daytime soap opera As the World Turns. He earned three Daytime Emmy nominations for the role which followed Luke coming to terms with being gay and embarking on romantic relationships with the characters of Noah and later, Reid.
Last year Van starred in the sexy gay thriller Kiss Me, Kill Me opposite Gale Harold. I interviewed him about the movie last year and about Eastsiders and he told me of the latter role: ‘Playing Thom on Eastsiders has been one of my favorite jobs I’ve ever done. Any time I would be able to get back to that world I’d be thrilled to do that. He’s really not like Luke and that’s really fun. Obviously you want to play different characters so it’s fun that he’s so different. I think he’s a little more grown up than Luke, he was always a brat. ’
In 2014, Van came out publicly as a gay man and was so touched by the outpouring of support that he posted a message on his Facebook page. He told me in our interview: “I honestly don’t think much changed. I don’t know if i was expecting anything to really. Not anything tangible that I’m aware of. Maybe things have changed in ways that I don’t see.”
