Happy 7th anniversary to Greg In Hollywood!
Seven year itch?
No way baby!
Doing Greg In Hollywood is a habit I don’t plan to break anytime soon. It’s a crazy addiction really and I just can’t fight it – no use in even trying.
Since I am US correspondent for Gay Star News, I have to squeeze in these blog posts in whenever I can and some days I’m more successful at this juggle than others.
It’s always been that way really since I launched Out In Hollywood, the predecessor to this site, in 2006.
I was an entertainment reporter and columnist at the LA Daily News and wanted to have a blog focusing on LGBT entertainment.
Editors were game but I still had to file my regular columns and stories.
That’s when the juggle – and the addiction – began.
Blogging freed me from the more formal style of writing I had done at the Daily News and before that at The Hollywood Reporter and for more than a decade at the Los Angeles Times (for three years at The Times I worked under Marty Baron who was played by Liev Schreiber in Spotlight which won the Oscar for best picture last week).
It’s been such an unexpected journey to go from being a young, ambitious and closeted reporter living and breathing hard news to finally coming out publicly as a gay man in my mid-30s and feeling compelled to transition first to entertainment and later to LGBT topics.
I’ve learned to try and follow my professional bliss which isn’t as easy as it used to be given the economics of journalism these days.
But Greg In Hollywood’s loyal readers allow me a nice slice of that bliss each day and I’m very grateful to all who visit this site.
Now we start year 8!
