Happy 74th birthday to the great Billie Jean King!

At a time when the news is dominated by horrible men who have done and continue to do horrible things, I am happy to shine a spotlight on a woman who has spent her life doing great things.

She’s Billie jean King and today is her 74th birthday.

BJK continues to be a vibrant and inspiring person in our world and I’m thrilled people got to learn part of her story in the recent film Battle of the Sexes.

It focused on her famous match against Bobby Riggs but also told the story of how Billie Jean – in a battle of equal pay – led the way in founding the women’s tennis tour. She founded the Women’s Tennis Association, the Women’s Sport Foundation, Team Tennis, and was an outspoken leader in the passage of Title IX.

All that.

Plus the winner of a record 20 Wimbledon titles (singles, doubles and mixed) and 19 other grand slam titles including four US Opens singles crowns.

She was number one in the world, is a visionary and makes things happen for herself and for others.

I’m so thrilled Billie Jean, after a long struggle, has become comfortable in her own skin and is an out and proud member of the LGBT community.

We are so proud to have her.

Happy birthday, @billiejeanking!

One Remark

  1. Not just one of the greatest players ever but also one of the best humans on the planet.
