Happy 72nd Birthday to George Takei!
Already a legend for his role as Sulu on the classic Star Trek series and feature films, George Takei has been using his fame in recent years to speak out for LGBT equality. He and husband Brad Altman were the first to get a marriage license in West Hollywood last year following the California Supreme Court ruling allowing gay marriage. Then when Prop. 8 passed, they remained on the front lines speaking out.
I interviewed George over the weekend at the GLAAD Media Awards and will share that with you later today or tomorrow.
Post-Sulu, George became a favorite of Howard Stern and is often the radio shock’s announcer on his show. He also has a recurring role on NBC’s Heroes. He’s had an epic life and is still living it to the fullest at 72 years young.
Happy Birthday!
