Happy 60th Birthday to Tim Gunn!

It seems like only yesterday that I attended a really fun premiere party for Project Runway in West Hollywood in 2004.

That was the first time and last time I ever watched the show except for a clip here or there for research.

But I’m glad it has worked out for Tim Gunn who I met at the Oscars five years ago and he was so lovely to me.

Tim also scored major points with me and a lot of others when he bravely opened up about his suicide attempt as a teenager in a video for Dan Savage’s It Gets Better Project.

He said in the video aimed at LGBT teens:

“As a 17-year-old youth who was in quite a bit of despair, I attempted to kill myself and I’m very happy today that that attempt was unsuccessful but at the time it’s all that I could contemplate. … I woke up the morning after taking over a hundred pills and I was in a whole other level of despair. I thought, ‘I shouldn’t be here. This isn’t what was meant to be.’ I frankly just wanted to start life all over again.”

“I understand the desperation, I understand the despair, and I understand how isolated you feel.”
