Happy 44th birthday to Wilson Cruz who is raising money for Puerto Rico hurricane recovery
Wilson Cruz, who rose to fame on TV’s My So-Called Life 23 years ago, turned 44 today.
Wilson has lived his entire professional life as an openly gay man and it has not stopped him from landing roles on stage (RENT, Tick, Tick… BOOM!), in films (Party Monster, He’s Just Not That Into You, Coffee Date, johns, and The People I’ve Slept With) and on television (Red Band Society, Party of Five, Noah’s Arc).
It’s been a terrific year professionally for Wilson who currently appears in TV’s Star Trek: Discovery as Dr. Hugh Culber and plays Dennis on TV’s 13 Reasons Why.
Wilson, a former national spokesman for GLAAD, has always juggled his acting career with being an activist.
So it comes as no surprise that he’s using his birthday as an occasion to raise money for those in need in Puerto Rico after the devastating hurricane in the U.S. territory.
He writes on his Facebook fundraising page for the Hispanic Federation’s UNIDOS Project: “I remain so grateful for all of the opportunities the year has brought, but my joy is tempered by the fact that we continue to witness an administrator that seems determined to make the lives of marginalized people MORE difficult. At every turn, Donald and his crew choose to turn their backs on all of us.
“The best example of this is their handling of the suffering endured by #PuertoRico due to the hurricanes that destroyed its infrastructure. Months after the hurricane people are still without power, water and basic necessities. They continue to live through the LONGEST and LARGEST BLACKOUT in US History!
All I want for my birthday and for Christmas, for that matter is to join me in supporting the Hispanic Federation’s UNIDOS Project.”
