Happy 40th Birthday to Hal Sparks

If you go to see the terrific new movie Extract, don’t miss the first few minutes because Hal Sparks has a funny scene as a guitar store employee – with really long hair – who gets duped by a pretty girl.

But we know best when his on-screen highs and lows were with gorgeous men like Gale Harold and Robert Gant! That was on, of course, Queer as Folk and Hal played good guy Michael Novotny on the show for its glorious five-season run on Showtime. I loved that show.

Hal is not only a fine actor, but also a comic, a singer and really funny on Twitter!

Even though Hal is straight off-screen, his participation in the show made him into a real LGBT activist and he has spoken out for our equal rights on countless occasions in very public ways. He’s also been a regular presence at AIDS Walk LA.

I hope Hal has a wonderful birthday.
