Happy 34th Birthday to singing star Clay Aiken! Let’s celebrate with a few of his musical performances
Clay Aiken turns 34 today and I have to say, he has grown to become a very fine man.
I’m so impressed with how articulate and thoughtful he has been whether it’s discussing ex-gay reparative therapy on The Dr. Oz Show or LGBT equality on Face the Nation, Clay has shown that he is a force to be reckoned with.
(I’ll give him a free pass for going on creepy Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice earlier this year)
But what Clay does best of all, is sing. Whether it’s on Broadway in Spamalot or on one of his hit albums, he sings one helluva number.
Here are three performances I especially like:

Thank you for your kind words about Clay and the Happy Birthday to him. He truly is a fine man with an amazing talent, a big heart for children, wit, and can be so funny! I really like your choices of performances. Saw him last night at the DPAC in Durham — his 2012 Joyful Noise Tour. Beautiful heartfelt performance — perfection!

Thanks, Greg, for your article about Clay. I believe you have always been supportive of him. Yes, he is quite a man & I hope he continues to speak his mind about the issues close to his heart. LGBT rights, improving life through UNICEF, the inclusion of children, & other causes he espouses. I did have to hold my nose during CApp everytime DT was on but Clay did a great job. Love the clips you chose!!!
Bev says:

Nice article on Clay, and how nice of you to wish him a Happy Birthday. Thanks as well for the video clips. Clay is a great singer/entertainer. If you get a chance to see Clay on Tour…do yourself a favor and go see him. His concerts are great!!!!!
Maryn says:
WOW! What a tremendous voice and stage presence! Clay can sing anything he wishes, and do a stupendous job. Since you featured HOME, please look for Magic Changes from the Broadway Backwards show. It was amazing.
Wonderful guy with a boatload of charisma, and I couldn’t wish him a happier birthday. Loved him on Celebrity Apprentice too, and he surely should have won. Think the winner was pre-determined there, as there was no evidence to support the result.
Pat says:
Thanks for the nice article on Clay Aiken.
I always thought he was a nice young man with a great voice on American Idol and he’s retained all of his good qualities. Has gotten better with age, still a great looking, great sounding guy. Kudos to him for all his outreach work.
Happy Birthyday, Clay!!
Janet P says:
Thank you for the wonderful article and the video clips. Clay is indeed a very fine man with a huge heart and a spectacular voice. His Christmas tour is fantastic.
molly says:
Thank you Greg, that was a very nice article and I enjoyed the video clips. So many writers nowadays seem to think that unless they are dissing someone their article will not be interesting. You prove them wrong all the time.
Doreen says:
Thanks for the birthday shout out to Clay. That was nice. “Bridge Over Troubled Water” remains as my very favorite Idol performance ever. That says a lot given the wonderful singers Idol has showcased over the years.
Jeremy says:
This guy has game.
Joan says:

and for this time of year, Clay’s rendition of “Mary, did you know?” on youtube is so beautiful!
Flo says:
Thank you for this wonderful article. Hope he enjoys his birthday..he is so special. Yes, he certainly is a fine young man..and very handsome. Clay is a great advocate for many causes, and I respect him very much for that. His Joyful Noise Tour is just amazing. I was privileged to see the Clearwater, Florida show. Go to see one of these shows, if you can.
Joanie says:
Clay makes jokes about getting older, but in his case he’s gotten better with age. He was great to begin with, with a beautiful voice. Now he’s so much more. Happy Birthday, Clay.
mary wheaton says:
Thank you for your article on Clay, I agree with you that Clay is a wonderful man and has a great voice and it’s great to be able to see his perfomances on video as i can’t attend his concerts. Thanks again Greg.
Kathy Parent says:
Thank you for your article — both the bday wishes and praise, richly deserved (except this year’s Celeb App was very fun, until the finale, and even then I loved Clay’s singing w/the choir), and your choice of songs, too.
Clay’s BOTW is classic, the Timeless Tour (I was able to go to Reno!!) was both great to listen to and hilarious, and his “Home” is lovely. And I agree with David that Clay’s Christmas songs are beautiful, and this is time of year for them.
But of course, since he’s in the middle of another Joyful Noise Christmas tour right now, we should just go to one of his concerts, right? LOL He usually sings Mary Did You Know and he is simply awesome live!!
carole Hart says:
Thank you for one of the best articles I’ve seen written on Clay. It is very obvious that “you get him”.
He said way back on Idol that he wanted to make a difference and he has for thousands and thousands of children and others. He has also made a difference in the lives of many of his fans as so many have disabilities which shut them off from the world. They now can stay at home and have hundreds upon hundreds of online friends. Clay has brought us all together. We are not just fans to him, we are “family”.
He is an exceptional young man who has improved so many of our lives. God bless you Greg and thank you again.
Cookie0 says:
