“Hairspray” and “Rock of Ages” director Adam Shankman enters rehab after Trevor Live benefit
It all makes sense to me now.
When I asked Adam Shankman what his holiday plans were during our red carpet chat at Trevor Live on Sunday, here’s what he said: ‘I am actually definitively not telling people, I’m vanishing,’ he said. ‘I’m going away.’
It’s since been learned that the director of Hairspray, Rock of Ages and The Wedding Planner has checked into rehab.
US Weekly posted an official statement from Shankman’s people: ‘Adam Shankman is currently seeking treatment in a rehabilitation center. His friends and family support him and wish him well on his journey to recovery.’
The Trevor Live! event has been elevated into a sold out affair in recent years since Shankman took over as director and gotten many A-listers to participate as performers or presenters.
This year’s cast included Adam Lambert, Jane Lynch, Darren Criss, Andrew Rannells, Fergie, Chris Colfer and host Kathy Griffin, among others.
Shankman had shared the news with me last year that he is engaged to Frank Meely who works in casting and reality television.
‘I never thought for one second that I would be able to get married,’ he said Sunday. ‘It never even occurred to me, never even occurred to me.’
He said a wedding date has not yet been set.
‘That still hasn’t happened.’
