Greg’s Gallery: Human Rights Campaign gala!

Happy Sunday everyone!

I’m busy today writing about last night’s Human Rights Campaign gala in Los Angeles and didn’t get some of my usual Sunday features done ahead of time but they will return next week!

Instead, here are some photos from last night’s event honoring producer Nina Jacobson (The Hunger Games, The People v. O.J. Simpson) and the Fox smash hit Empire.

I’m usually sitting in the back of the ballroom in a press pen eating a sandwich I’ve smuggled in after covering red carpet but this year my friend John Finco invited me to join him at the Lexus table.

I had no idea that table would be right next to the stage! Ryan Murphy and Jacobson were at the table to out left and Darren Criss at the table to our right.

Anyway, some photos – stories to come: 1. Out movie producer Nina Jacobson was presented her award by Ryan Murphy 2. HRC President Chad Griffin greets honoree Lee Daniels, the creator of Empire 3. Darren Criss stands for James Obergefell 4. Ilene Chaiken accepts award for Empire 5. Empire star Jussie Smollett addresses the crowd 6. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti welcomed the audience to the event at the JW Marriott/Ritz-Carlton at LA LIVE 7. HRC board member Justin Mikita introduced HRC President Chad Griffin 8. NCIS star Pauley Perrette introduced historic Supreme Court marriage plaintiff Jim Obergefell 9. Singer Estelle closed the show and had the audience dancing by the stage. 10. Betty DeGeneres (Ellen’s mom) is a regular attendee of HRC events 11. Scandal star Guillermo Diaz arrives 12. Jim Obergefell arrives 13. Maria Bello had photographers going crazy 14. Queer as Folk alum Hal Sparks is a staunch LGBT ally 15. Nice to chat with actor Michael Medico and TV producer Bradley Bredeweg (The Fosters) at the VIP reception. 16. Next year I’ll be back to a sandwich in the back.
