Greg in the Afternoon: Loving the Insomina Cafe! Plus video of GLAAD Award speeches by Kathy Griffin and Rev. Gene Robinson

Despite my post birthday party fatigue, it’s been a fairly productive several hours here at the Insomnia Cafe on Beverly. I decided to give the place another try after a little spat with the owner a few months back. You see, I just did not understand the vibe of the place and when I got a phone call, I started chatting with my then-Daily News editor about a story. The owner ran up to me, mid-call and whispered loudly: “NO CELL PHONES!” Since people were talking, I got pissy and told her to chill out.

Well, now that I’ve spent all morning here and see how she takes care of all of her customers, I can see why she works so hard to protect the vibe of this place which is a real haven for writers. She does not miss a thing wehther it’s an empty plate on your table or if you should move your car from the residential zrea after two hours to avoid a ticket. All that AND very reasonably-priced food.

I’m going to make this place one of the Greg In Hollywood bureaus!
