Greg In Hollywood Interview: Michael Muhney!
When I saw Young and the Restless star Michael Muhney in late May at the Daytime Gives Back event, he had a full beard and looked nothing like the clean-shaven soap star who showed up at the Daytime Emmys in Las Vegas over the weekend.
At that previous event, I asked Michael point-blank if his character of Adam, presumed dead, was really off the show for good. Before he could say anything, a publicist came over and told me to keep my questions limited to the charity! Since this wasn’t the case with any other stars that day, my suspicions grew!
Just a few days later, we learned that Adam was not dead and that Michael was back on the show.
“I had to keep a big secret for a long time,” the actor told me Sunday. “To know that if everything were executed the way that it needed to be that way back around Thanksgiving, I knew that I was supposed to, in theory, be back. But there were some X-factors that I knew might cause me to walk away. I’m just really, really glad that I’m here.”
Michael has become a huge fan favorite since joining the show a year ago. He was brought in quickly to replace actor Chris Engen who reportedly was not at all happy with what was happening to his character.
Michael, previously best known for his role on Veronica Mars, has clearly relished his time on the soap and doesn’t want it to end anytime soon.
“You have people out there who might say, ‘Oh, you just do what you do because you get paid for it.’ But if someone offered me a job that paid the exact same amount, I’m not leaving and I don’t care what that other job is,” he said. “That’s how much I love this. It’s phenomenal being back and not having to lie about it anymore either.”
Of the tremendous fan support he said: “That honestly means more to me than you realize. I put so much love and blood, sweat and tears into this part and to know that it’s all for a reason, I love it.”
