Greg in Hollywood fave William McNamara launches Kickstarter campaign for “The Trouble With Billy”

He first got my attention with Stealing Home when he was seduced by Jodie Foster!

Then I became a fan for life when he starred as a gay college student in the superb Doing Time on Maple Drive.

Many roles followed in such films as Copycat, Radio Inside, Chasers and Liz: The Elizabeth Taylor Story in which he played Montgomery Clift.

But one of my favorite things that William McNamara has ever done is play Hollywood agent Brad Advail in the late, great Showtime series Beggars and Choosers.

Now the handsome actor, currently appearing in DTLA on the Logo channel, is raising money for a TV series that reminds me a bit of his portrayal of Brad. It’s called The Trouble With Billy and is described as ‘a groundbreaking new TV series about an aging bad boy and his pit bull roaming the Hollywood jungle – a bizarre cross between Louie and Entourage.

Here are more details: Loosely based on the loosely lived life of fallen 90s star Billy Mack, it follows Billy’s adventurous trials and tribulations as he tries to revive his movie career and save his soul in the shark-infested waters of modern-day Hollywood. Sadly deprived of a hip “entourage” to coddle his shrinking ego, Billy lives in Monte Carlo — a rundown 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo — with his only companion, a trusty pit bull, Boo. Fueled by a cutting-edge blend of reality and fantasy, The Trouble with Billy is…the Anti-Entourage.

Here is a LINK to the Kickstarter page. So far, more than half of the $15,000 goal has been reached.Trailer is below:

The goal is to go to series but at the very least, the project will be a stand-alone 30 minute comedy special available via Netflix, Red Box, iTunes with some segments popping up on Hulu etc.

Best of luck to Mr. McNamara and his crew! (Here is a LINK to the brief interview I did with Billy a few months ago at premiere of DTLA)
