Glenn Close is returning to Broadway as Norma Desmond in a revival of ‘Sunset Boulevard’

Three-time Tony Award-winner Glenn Close is returning to Broadway in her iconic role of Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard. This follows a bravura sold-out engagement earlier this year at the English National Opera (ENO), which marked Close’s West End debut. The Broadway production will feature a 40-piece orchestra on the stage of The Palace Theatre and be directed by Lonny Price. Performances will begin on Thursday, February 2, 2017. It will play a limited 16-week engagement.

Sunset Boulevard originally premiered in London’s West End at the Adelphi Theatre in 1993 with Patti LuPone who was contractually set to take it to Broadway after one year. Close headlined the American premiere at the Shubert Theatre in Los Angeles. Close was such a success that she was chosen to star on Broadway over LuPone who sued and received a million settlement. The musical moved to Broadway in 1994 with what was then, the biggest advance in Broadway history, at $37.5million.
