GLAAD fighting for dumped Kyle and Fish storyline to continue on “One Life to Live”

I’m still stunned by ABC’s decision to kick its gay couple Oliver Fish and Kyle Lewis to the curb.
Running the gay people out of Llanview and blaming them for ratings woes. It’s outrageous.
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has stepped up and in a statement Friday said: “GLAAD today advocated for continuation of the storyline of characters Kyle and Fish on One Life and spoke out on the importance of bringing fair and accurate media images of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people to Americans. Last summer, One Life brought a ground-breaking relationship into the homes of millions with Kyle and Fish’s story, one that built acceptance and understanding of gay people. While we understand that the close of storylines is a frequent occurrence on daytime dramas, cancelling this story just as it gains momentum is a step backward in ABC Daytime’s representation of the lives of gay Americans.”
GLAAD continues: “When news reports broke yesterday, GLAAD spoke to ABC Daytime to voice concerns over the cancellation and advocate that the storyline continue. We remain disappointed that ABC Daytime has chosen to stop sharing this powerful story with viewers of One Life. GLAAD will continue to advocate that in the near future, producers and writers at ABC Daytime incorporate gay and transgender characters in their programming.”
Here is ABC’s response to GLAAD: ”The groundbreaking Kyle-Fish relationship on One Life to Live was embraced by fans both as a great story and a fair and honest reflection of the LGBT community. We’re glad their story resonated with the audience, and understand the fans’ disappointment now that it has concluded. The show has a history of bringing LGBT stories to the screen — earning two GLAAD awards in the process — as well as returning popular characters when they serve the ongoing story. These great characters remain in Llanview, and while there are no immediate plans to advance their story, the door is always open for their return.”
No plans to advance a groundbreaking story so they can just tell the same stories over and over (how many times can Nora and Bo get back together?).

Exactly…rehash all the old stuff over and over which no one was watching before KISH came to the screen. KISH invigorated OLTL…I was a ATWT fan and switched when Kyle and Oliver’s story picked up speed, of course Luke and Noah’s story was falling fast into the crapper and still is…but ATWT has not dumped them because of the “mainstream audience”…They are letting them play it out until the show comes to an end in September….I assume OLTL will be following into the Recycle Bin of Soaps closely thereafter…As long as I know now that Brett and Scott are ok and gave everything they could to the KISH story I will continue to always love this experience and rewatch it on You Tube as long as it’s there and follow their careers. I just hope they get to work together again….They are a superb team.

OLTL won the Glaad award but no love shown to the actors. Firing wasn’t even mentioned by anyone, I don’t think. Brett’s tweet showed his disappointment.

I’m furious about this news as this was the only reason, I was watching One Life to Live. There are so many other problems. For example, Todd gets too much airtime.
At my web link, there is a postcard campaign titled Keep Kish that’s asking fans to write the top 4 executives involved with this outrageous decision to ax these incredible actors – Brett Claywell and Scott Evans.

What’s so insulting is that ABC thinks that KISH only resonated with the gay/lesbian community. They didn’t. There are many 18-49 year old heterosexual famales like myself that this story resonated with as well. Women adore a good love story and this was one of the best ones on soaps today. I’m extremely disappointed in ABC Daytime for this decision.
MK Scott says:
Greg, remember a few months back, I asked you Why isn’t this show #1? Now, with KISH getting little airtime and the rest of the stories have gotten too crazy. The show is getting lesas watchable. With KISH leaving it will get worse.

OLTL’S ratings are suffering due to several reasons:
#1/ the stupid Mitch Lawrence storyline wheere Mitch apparently has impregnanted half of LLanview and he keeps coming back from prison with his religious cult members and the stories get even more bizarre. #2 the lets make Dorian gay for votes – was totally ridiculous and and offense to gays all over.
#3/ the gigi Rex Skyler whose baby is it who wants who etc …is totally boring and sickening..no one cares abouyt these 3 characters – get rid of them and Mitch and his gang. Many of us watch OLTL because of Bree Williams and the Kyle/Fish storyline. Now you will lose us wit hthe cancllation of thsi storyline..next steo will be cancellation of OLTl -due to poor writing.

excuse the typos in the previous post but I am steaming mad because this is a good show but the writers are ruining it totally !!!
