George Takei still cannot stand fellow “Star Trek” alum William Shatner: “He is very self-centered”

It’s no secret that Star Trek alums George Takei (Hikaru Sulu) and William Shatner (Cpt. James T. Kirk) can’t stand each other in real life.

When Takei this week was asked about it during an appearance on Real Time With Bill Maher, he didn’t mince words.

“Canadians have a certain image of being even-tempered and friendly and all that,” Takei said. “Well, he is a person who is that way with himself. He is very self-centered.”

He added: “We work together. We’re professionals. We get the work done, but, it’s with a lot of difficulty.”

Takei also joked with Maher that the temptation is sometimes there to just “drive the starship into a death star” just to spite Shatner.

The feud came up again when Takei talked about how his cast-mates all knew was gay except for one. “It went right over his head.” The obvious answer: William Shatner.

One Remark

  1. Mr. Takei has become a living-legend and an iconic figure not just for the LGTB community but his celebrity, his voice and opinions are shared in many causes including seniors citizens which I think is amazing. I have to state that I have such respect, admiration and even love for him and all he does. I saw him on Howard Stern and he was pretty funny and there can’t be a person more themselves all the time than him. This is just my opinion but even you would think he would be upset and about to lose it when there are negative things being said, he sometimes is right there curving and actually not taking himself that serious. When it comes down to his activist spirt, he is on point and speaks his mind. I have to say that I’m a bit sadden and taken back a bit how he really lets William Shatner have it. These two are men of a certain age and both men have been successful in their own right, still very relevant (which isn’t that important) and both are steadfast at being seen and being heard. It would be awful if one of these (God forbid) would pass without the other coming to some kind of resolution. It has been said that not everyone is going to love you, like you or even respect you but that seems so shallow within itself. Can I state that is a bunch of bull-crap from ‘The Evil One’ because truthfully we are all in the same boat. All of us want to be liked, loved and respected. Are needs and wants become a bit tricky but it’s no different from the guy or gal next to you. As far as getting along we have been a society that has advance since primitive times and we know that self-discovery doesn’t always happen for people when they are younger but sometimes it does. It’s alleged that two strong personalities are going to always butt heads but that doesn’t have to be the case when your more aware of the world and people. You know it’s easy to pick out things you don’t like about someone else but in reality, you possess those same qualities if you can recognize them so easily, I’m just stating. I truly pray that George and William can have some kind of resolution one day because holding a grudge and being angry with someone, doesn’t do anything for anyone, especially two people that would have the opportunity to truly help shape and mold a generation.
