Garrett Clayton opens up about keeping his sexuality private: ‘I just don’t think it’s pertinent’

Garrett Clayton seems to be taking a page from the playbook of Kevin Spacey when it comes to discussing his sexuality.

Or make that not discussing his sexuality.

The young star of the new film King Cobra acknowledges there is heightened interest in the topic because he is playing a gay porn star in the film which open next week.

‘This is my job. And I’m happy to promote my work. And I’m happy to stand up for things I believe in,’ he tells PriceSource in an interview posted today. ‘If people can’t see the positivity in that, then I think that’s up to them.’

He’s aware of people who have been critical of his decision to keeps some things private.

‘I mean, they probably would feel a lot differently if people were calling them and saying, “So tell me: What you do in your bedroom every day?” You can have Mother Teresa giving food out and somebody will find something negative to say.’

Clayton, 25, got his big break when he was cast in 2013 in the role of Tanner in Disney’s musical Teen Beach Movie. He as since done several guest shots and films and is part of the cast of NBC’s upcoming Hairspray Live!

‘I moved out to LA to have a career where I got to play characters and focus on work and do all these awesome things, and I’m getting to do that now,’ he says. ‘I just don’t think it’s pertinent to talk about my personal life. I don’t think it adds to the work; it just distracts from it.

‘I’m supportive of an open-minded lifestyle and letting people do what they want to do with their lives, so it’s nice to be able to do another, different type of role,’ he adds. ‘Acting is about stepping out of body and getting to see different lives and experience different things, and I got to do that in this movie.’

Playing the role of gay porn star Brent Corrigan in King Cobra has given Clayton ‘a lot more sympathy’ for those who actually work in the adult film industry.

‘A lot of times society is so harsh on people who do work in porn, and they’re so judged and scrutinized, and yet they’re so accepted because porn drives the internet, and people watch it so consistently, and it’s a multi-billionaire dollar industry. When you’re done working in it, though, people shun you. They just treat people who work in this industry poorly, and yet they’re watching them alone in their bedroom, supporting them. You can’t pick and choose. You either are open-minded, or you’re not.’

3 Remarks

  1. He’s hot! Look out Zac Efron.

  2. That means he’s gay.

  3. So if Garrett Clayton has a boyfriend or a girlfriend, he must keep it completely under wraps to follow his philosophy. This reminds me of Matt Damon’s reasoning for hiding one’s sexuality. Garrett Clayton can do what he wants. It’s his right, but the more he talks, the more he’s losing traction for his argument.
