Friday Morning Man: Janko Tipsarevic!
His countryman, Novak Djokovic, is getting all kinds of well-deserved attention these days as the world’s top-ranked tennis player and winner of Wimbledon, the US Open and Australian Open.
But boy, does Nole have competition in the looks department from fellow Serbian tennis player Janko Tipsarevic who reached the quarterfinals of the US Open earlier this month.
I confess, I hadn’t paid much attention to Janko until my pal Kenneth Walsh featured him on his Kennethinthe212 site.
Janko, 27, has also won an Australian Open title but his crown came at the junior tournament in 2001. He’s been ranked as high as number 13 in the world and has wins against such top players as Andy Murray, Andy Roddick and Tomas Berdych and stretched Roger Federer to five sets at the 2008 Australian Open. He lost 10-8 in the fifth in a match that lasted four and a half hours. Later that year, he upset three-time finalist Roddick at Wmbledon.
So far, his biggest titles is the 2010 Davis Cup where he teamed with Djokovic and others to give Serbia and come-from-behind victory of the Czech Republic.
