Friday Morning Man: Coby Fleener!

Since Coby Fleener is a tight end for the Indianapolis Colts, we won’t be seeing him Sunday in the Super Bowl.

But I wanted to feature him anyway because not only is he a cutie pie, he also is very sensible and welcoming when it comes to being welcoming to gay players in the NFL should one ever have the courage to come out.

“I’m very comfortable with it,” he told Out Sports when asked about the idea of playing with a gay teammate. “As long as they competed on the field and gave it their all in practice, that’s all I care about.”

But sadly, homophobia still reigns in the league as evidenced this week when San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver said on a radio show that there is no place for gays in the National Football League.

It’s maddening – especially the apology tour that has followed: ‘It’s not what’s in my heart.’ Oh yeah? Then why say it?

But guys like Fleener give us hope.

The straight players have to lay the groundwork for gay players to feel they can come out because of course they are in the league right now.

Coby, 24, was drafted by the Colts in 2o12 after playing for Stanford University. He’s on the same team as his college quarterback, Andrew Luck.

2 Remarks

  1. What a cool guy, and might I say he’s extremely good-looking.

  2. His eyes are breathe taking
