Frank Ocean pays back Chipotle to end legal dispute – leaves f-bomb on cashier’s check
Frank Ocean paid up in the end – but he wasn’t happy about it.
The Grammy-winning singer had been sued by Mexican food chain Chipotle for $212,500 after it had paid him that much as an advance for singing a song for an ad.
Ocean was to perform a remake of Pure Imagination for an animated ad titled The Scarecrow which is the companion film for Chipotle’s new app-based game (see video below).
Ocean never sang the song citing creative differences and Chipotle sued to get its advance money back. He reportedly objected to the chain’s logo being a part of the ad.
Fiona Apple performed on the ad instead.
He posted the photo of his cashier’s check to Chipotle on his Tumblr account and wrote in the memo line in all caps: FUCK OFF.
Chipotle has issued this response: ‘Thanks, Frank.’
Not sure why Ocean wouldn’t have returned the money anyway – without having to be sued. Not sure he comes off very well here. How did Chipotle exactly wrong him and why the heck would they not put their logo on the thing?
